The Maly Theatre (a small theatre compared to the nearby Bolshoi or Grand Opera Theaters) is a drama theater in Moscow, Russia. Established in 1806, and operating on its present site on the Theatre Square since 1824, the theatre traces its history to the Moscow University drama company, established in 1756.
In the 19th century, the Maly was “universally recognized in Russia as the leading dramatic theatre of the century,” and was the home stage for famed actors Mikhail Shchepkin and Maria Yermolova. Forty of Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky’s fifty-four plays premiered at the Maly, and the theatre was known as “The House of Ostrovsky.”
At present, the Maly Theatre is being refurbished and will re-open in October 2016.
As part of the refurbishment, the Astro Spatial Audio system has been selected for the implementation of advanced immersive audio experiences.
The SARA Premium Audio Renderer for the Maly Theatre, will be a full blown system, including not only the applications for 3D and Live production, but also the revolutionary RSM Pro Application for object based room acoustic enhancement.
As the backbone for the audio routing, SARA Premium is connected to a Nexus Digital Audio Routing platform (provided by Stage Tec, Berlin) as well as multitude d&b loudspeakers and Sennheiser microphones.
